*THE SWEDISH GIRL by Alex Gray
Crime | 352pp | Sphere | March 2013 | Korea -- | Japan: EAJ
Kirsty Wilson can‟t believe her luck when she finds a room in a luxury student flat in Glasgow to share with the
beautiful Candice Salvesson, a wealthy student from Stockholm, and three young male housemates. But the
initial delight turns to horror when Kirsty finds the Swedish girl lying dead in their home and Colin, one of the
flatmates, accused of her murder and taken to prison. Kirsty refuses to accept that Colin is capable of murder
and, inspired by Detective Inspector Lorimer, she sets out to clear his name. Colin copes with prison life by
submerging himself in his writing, especially after a visit from Kirsty and Professor Solomon Brightman when Solly
asks him to write down all he can about his relationship with Candy. Thus begins his treatise on „The Swedish
Girl‟. Is it a fantasy produced from a fevered imagination or is Colin‟s shocking tale the real truth behind the
image of the demure, sophisticated girl from Stockholm? As the story unfolds and Candy‟s dramatic past is
revealed, Lorimer and his team have to hunt down a killer in the neighbourhood who is targeting young
blonde women who bear an uncanny physical resemblance to the Swedish girl. Alex Gray was born and
educated in Glasgow. She has been awarded the Scottish Association of Writers' Constable and Pitlochry
trophies for her crime writing, and is the Scottish Chapter convenor for the Crime Writers' Association.
Evie is driven to despair: her fiancé hates her job and her flatmate hates her fiancé. And
when an unexpected event strikes the epicentre of her happiness, Evie is driven to gin and
tonic. If she doesn‟t sort herself out, her liver and her bank manager will hate her. So when
