This fiscal year saw the initiation of some projects,
progress on some and completion of others, as well.
All, however, have or will make a major impact on our community’s ability to compete for new businesses.
BEttEr safEr rOaDs
The LSEDC took an active role in efforts to
renew the half-cent city sales tax for roads in
April 2007. By assistance with fundraising,
public education and passage of a unanimous
resolution of endorsement, the LSEDC
took seriously the importance of a quality
transportation infrastructure in our community.
In the approved resolution of support, the
LSEDC said, “(we) recognize the importance
of the city’s transportation infrastructure as an
integral component in supporting and fostering
a vibrant economy, ensuring the safety of its
citizens and providing for an improved quality
of life.”
Former Assistant City Administrator Shelly
Temple-Kneuvean and Allan S. Gray of LSEDC
member firm Truman Medical Center- Lakewood
served as co-chairs of the Better Safer Roads
Campaign Committee. Many other LSEDC
investors lent their name and contributions
to the effort. The Lee’s Summit Chamber of
Commerce and the newly-created and LSEDC
staffed Southern Gateway Business Alliance
joined in passing resolutions of their own.

Better, safer roads protect you and your family, and they help our police, fire,
ambulance and school bus drivers do their jobs. Vote Yes to extend the existing
half cent sales tax for roads with NO TAX INCREASE. The tax is monitored by a
Citizens Oversight Committee to ensure accountability and sunsets in 10 years.
