42VoD Streaming Cluster VoD Streaming Cluster 43The VoD cluster is the group of servers responsible of storing and streaming the ondemandcontents to each STB managed by the middleware. The cluster can be dividedinto several storage and caching levels with one or more specific node at each level. Themost common approach is to have one or two levels with one node each.Up to 2 Tb Storage NodeIn the first level, the storage nodes store and replicate the multimedia content library. At the second and further levels, the streaming nodes act as both streamers and cachingnodes, providing the capacity to answer the queries from the STB faster than from thefirst level. When a STB asks for a movie to a streamer, the streamer checks if the movie is storedlocally in its own memory. If the content is available locally, the streaming startsimmediately, otherwise, the streamer asks the storage to stream the content to itself. The content is then served through the streamer to the STB. At the same time, the contentis split in two and cached locally in the streamer to speed up the subsequent accessesfrom other users to the same movie.SN.12Up to 2 Tb Storage Node• Up to 2 TB storage node.• Capable of storing up to 450 hours of SD video or 180 hours of HD video.• RAID 1 mirroring to ensure data redundancy.• Gigabit Ethernet output.• Optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet output.• 1 Disk Maximum fail tolerance.Storage nodesThis clustering approach means that the storing and streaming requirements can growindependently from each other making it possible to adapt the system to any installationsize.VoDKAST Architecture GraphicThe storage nodes, with an optional external disk array, provide storageof any content of the media library, ensuring fast access, fault tolerance, continuous data output and the capacity of redimensioning the networkwhile in operation. The storage facility will store both the VoD, NetPVR, playout and metadataof the whole media library of the hospitality system. The storage capabilities of the platform can be increased by adding morestorage nodes, independently from the streaming capacity required.ArchitectureProcessorCacheMainmemorySystem architectureStandard/integratedinterfacesSoftwareNetworkingManagementMass storageand mediaOperatingsystemsInternaldisk optionSN.12Two Intel Xeon processors 5500 seriesLevel 1: 32 KB instruction and 32 KB data L1 cacheper coreLevel 2: 256 KB unified (data and instruction) L2cache per coreLevel 3: 4 MB or 8 MB shared inclusive L3 cache perprocessor12 DDR3 DIMM slots (six DIMM slots per CPU socket);system supports from 2 GB (1x 2 GB to 96 GB (12x 8GB) of memoryBased on Intel Xeon processor 5500 series and Intel5500 ChipsetNetwork: Two 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet portsSerial: One RJ-45 portUSB: Five USB 2.0 ports (two front, two rear, oneinternal)Expansion bus: One PCIe 2.0 slot (x16 electrical/x16mechanical, low-profile)Solaris 10 OSOpenSolaris OSRed Hat Enterprise Linux 4Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10VMware ESX 3.5Windows Server 2003 Standard/Enterprise EditionsWindows Server 2008 Standard/Enterprise EditionsWindows Server 2008 Standard/Enterprise/Datacenter EditionsTwo GbE ports integrated on motherboardOptional Sun Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM)service processor module– VGA 8 MB: 1,024x768 at 60 Hz– Management port: One 10/100 RJ-45 portEnables remote power control; remote keyboard, video, mouse (KVM) graphicalaccess; and remote media (DVD, CD, floppy)Secure remote access using Web interface over SSL,or CLI over SSHSun xVM Ops Center software supportIPMI 2.0, SNMP v1, v2c, and v3In-band, out-of-band, and side-band remotemanagementUp to four hot-pluggable 3.5 in.
