SRI GANAPATHAYE NAMAHThe Enigma CalledArudhas – Part 1BPHS SeriesByMadhura Krishnamurthi SastriTranslation & Proofing: VenkataRamana & Shanmukha, IndiaReadership Level: Very AdvancedA ‘Mission Saptarishis’ InitiativeOne of the oldest authorities on JaiminiAstrology, he graced the AstrologicalMagazine in 1960s under immensepersuasion of Late Dr Raman and gave ussome rare jewels in Jaimini Astrology. Atthe age of 80, he lives in a small town inAndhra Pradesh. Incidentally not many inIndia & West know that Andhra Pradeshhas been the land of Jaimini Astrology afterBanaras. Revered Sastriji leads a strictBrahminical life along with being veryopen minded & extremely humble. Hishumility only shows his supreme masteryover astrology. He and IrangantiRangacharya are considered as theforemost authorities alive today in JaiminiAstrology. Mr Sastri has supportedSaptarishis Astrology right from itsinception stage.Publishers Note:In these series, we will publish the translationof Sri Madhura Krishnamurthi Sastri’s BPHScommentary. In his commentary, Sri Sastri hasextensively quoted various other commentaries onJaimini system when commenting on BPHS’s Arudhachapter. Like any scholarly approach towards asubject, he as a scholar has quoted the variousviewpoints needed to understand arudhas. We hopethis will enable the readers to appreciate andunderstand the Jaimini system in detail & understandfor the first time that arudhas are not easy as it seemsand ancient scholars like Somanatha, Neelakantha,Gautam Rishi & KrishnaMishra also had divergentviews which are not known so far thus for students inthis era to say with surety that only one way ofcalculating arudhas is the only truthful way is nonproductive& non-scholarly.An apology to Shri Madura Shastri is due fromour end for the delay & slackness in our publishing. Also apologies to Shri Venkat Raman who hastranslated this since a year. Shanmukha must bethanked for typing the Sanskrit devanigiri, proofing &formatting this translation which is dear to us. ShriShastri has in his magnanimous nature granted uspermission to translate his BPHS commentary for thebenefit of English readers. One must note that K.N.Raohas praised Shri Maduraji’s translation as one of thefinest in the old ‘Jyotish Group’ forum if memory servesus right. Though many have taken Shri Shastri’sBPHS & quoted on forums & blogs without giving himcredit what is important to note is that a commentarylike this with so many shlokic reference on Arudhachapter has never appeared ever before & lets not forgetMaduraji did it first.]427
