Aluminum <strong>Conductors</strong>, Aluminum-Clad Steel ReinforcedCONSTRUCTIONAluminum <strong>Conductors</strong>, Aluminum-Clad Steel Reinforced (ACSR/AW) is a concentric-lay-strandedconductor consisting of aluminum-clad steel central core (Alumoweld) with one or more layersof hard drawn stranded aluminum wires. Alumoweld is a highly resistant steel rod, covered witha thick coating of pure aluminum, which is cold-drawn in order to obtain wires of the requireddiameters.The design and dimensions of ACSR/AW conductors are identical to those of ordinary ACSRconductors, except the steel core in ACSR conductor, which is aluminum-clad steel core inACSR/AW.APPLICATIONAluminum <strong>Conductors</strong>, Aluminum-Clad Steel Reinforced (ACSR/AW) can be used inMedium, High and Extra-High voltage transmission lines; also used for earth wires. In comparisonwith ACSR conductors, ACSR/AW conductors have considerable technical and economicaladvantages in overhead lines.
