While this is the backbone of theChristie Clinic Illinois Marathon mission, Iwould like to share with you the impact theirmission has had on DSC.DSC has had the distinct pleasure of beingone of the charities of focus for the ChristieClinic Illinois Marathon for the past twoyears. Through this partnership, DSC has hadthe opportunity to volunteer for the event innumerous ways and encouraged those runnerswho participated from our DSC family.Consumers, DSC board members, the managementteam, and our staff have all beenrepresented in our participation as volunteersof this incredible event, this year even wearingour own Christie Clinic Illinois MarathonTeam DSC t-shirts. To have the opportunityto share in the excitement and the atmosphereof race day has been truly inspiring. What has followed is life changing. Afterthe 2009 and 2010 marathons, DSC has beenpresented a total of $21,000, $10,000 from2009 and $11,000 from this year. Then, toour surprise, Mike Lindeman personallydonated another $4,000 taking our totaldonation from both years to $25,000. Withthis donation, I would like to highlight acouple of ways in which lives can be changed. With $25,000, we can offer one year of PLAYProject therapy to six children with autismand their families, or this same amount ofmoney would provide almost a full-time salaryfor one staff position in our EmploymentServices Program offering supports to peoplelike Kay, Charles, and Jon.Christie Clinic offers Excellence as one oftheir Core Values and defines it as, “We giveour best effort to provide quality in everythingwe undertake.” Alan, excellence is whatChristie has offered DSC, and with partnerslike Jan Seely and Mike Lindeman as codirectors, you are set to rise above excellencein the years to come.Jan and Mike, I am not sure how to thankyou. Nikki and I know what it is to puttogether events for DSC, going without muchsleep in the days leading up to the event, sowe can only imagine how many weeks ormonths you go without sleep to bring togetherthe thousands of people who make thishappen. Thank you both so much!Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon, congratulationsand thank you for your ongoingsupport of DSC and our community!
