which includes inform<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> about gradu<strong>at</strong>e work within the Faculty, a list <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong>the Faculty, and inform<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> about their research interests.Applic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s should be accompanied by two or three academic references, academictranscripts and two pieces <strong>of</strong> written work <strong>on</strong> different philosophical topics, each <strong>of</strong>2500 words (for MSt and BPhil applic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s), or <strong>on</strong>e piece <strong>of</strong> written work <strong>of</strong> 5000words <strong>on</strong> the topic <strong>of</strong> proposed research (for PRS applic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s). All parts <strong>of</strong> theapplic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong> dossier are taken into account when assessing applic<strong>at</strong>i<strong>on</strong>s. ThePhilosophy <strong>Gradu<strong>at</strong>e</strong> Studies Committee appoints supervisors for successfulcandid<strong>at</strong>es, subject to the availability <strong>of</strong> a suitable supervisor for the proposed thesistopic. Candid<strong>at</strong>es must not <strong>on</strong>ly be accepted by the PGSC, but by a College as well.Academics in the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Philosophy may be able to supervise gradu<strong>at</strong>e studentsjointly with other departments within the <strong>University</strong>. <strong>Gradu<strong>at</strong>e</strong>s with a background inmedicine, for example, can be jointly supervised with an academic in The EthoxCentre. The Ethox Centre does not have a formal DPhil programme as such, but ifgradu<strong>at</strong>e students are interested in doing a DPhil in bioethics with the Centre, Ethoxacademics will be willing to c<strong>on</strong>sider ideas for projects th<strong>at</strong> fit in with their four mainresearch areas: genetics, mental health and neuroscience, global ethics, and clinicalethics support.
