SNL housings combine theadvantages of the SNH housings, suchas the high load carrying capacity andmachining quality as well as the widevariety of sealing alternatives with thefollowing design and performancecharacteristics.Stiffer designThe housing base is reinforced with ribsand extra material surrounding the holesfor the attachment bolts in order to provideimproved seating on the base plate. Theattachment bolts can be preloaded to givebetter location and can no longer deformthe housing base or housing bore.Improved heat conductionThe web (rib) reinforcement of the housingbase enlarges the contact area betweenbase and base plate and allows for animproved heat flow from the bearing outerring to the base plate. The bearings will run5 to 10 % cooler than in other housings.Drilled and tapped hole with nippleSNL housings have a drilled and tappedhole as standard in the cap. The hole isprotected by a plastic plug. The nipple issupplied, together with a nipple protecter,with the housing (packed inside). If theapplication is such that relubrication isrequired it is only necessary to screw thenipple into the hole and lubricant can besupplied to one side of the bearing.● Stiffer design Increased insensitivity to uncontrolled tightening of theattachment bolts, lower operating temperatures● Improved heat Lower bearing temperatures, high speed operationconductionpossible with oil lubrication, extended relubricationintervals, extended service life, reduced lubricantconsumption0001S270001S27● Drilled and tapped Relubrication facility as standardhole with nipple● Caps and bases Avoids mixing of caps and bases, permits traceabilityindividually marked● Indications for holes to Simple and easy adaptation of standard housing totake other components individual application, easy attachment of conditionmonitoring equipment● Simpler mounting Simpler and more reliable mounting and maintenance● Additional seals Extended range of use, longer bearing service livesCaps and bases individually markedThe housing base and cap are matchedduring manufacture and are not interchangeablewith the caps and bases ofother housings. To prevent mixing capsand bases when mounting several housings,the same consecutive number ismarked on the cap and base of eachindividual housing.6

The positions where holescan be drilled to take these sensors areindicated on the housing.Simpler mountingIn order to simplify mounting and makealignment more accurate, cast indications,which are vertical to the centre of the boreof the housing, are provided on the endfaces as well as on the side faces of thehousing base. Mounting instructions, includedwith each seal pack, give valuabletips.Additional sealsTwo new seal designs have been developedspecifically for SNL housings.One is intended for difficult conditionswhich call for a robust seal which can berelubricated and the other is for highspeeds and oil lubrication.7
