WINGS OF LEGACYJACK HUNTCOLLAGEINSTALLEDIN LIBRARYIn celebration ofJack Hunt’s historicand vital role in theformation of the university,the <strong>University</strong>Archives has createdin the Daytona BeachCampus library acommemorative wallcollage bearing hisname. The collage isdesigned to educatelibrary patrons onHunt’s role as “Thefather of the modernaviation university,” aswell as to honor theHunt family.The <strong>Alumni</strong> Association staff recently presentedReid Tyre (’54, MC) with a plaque in appreciation ofhis commitment and enthusiasm for <strong>Embry</strong>-<strong>Riddle</strong>.Reid Tyre isForever an EagleFor decades Reid Tyre (’54, MC) has been a happy fixture in thelives of his fellow <strong>Embry</strong>-<strong>Riddle</strong> alumni, attending Homecomingparades (he was Grand Marshal in the 2008 Daytona BeachHomecoming Parade), reunions and other events whenever hecan. Those who have spent time with him discover quickly thathe “bleeds blue and gold” and talks about <strong>Embry</strong>-<strong>Riddle</strong> atevery opportunity. When he’s on campus, he always takes the time tovisit and reminisce with the <strong>Alumni</strong> Association staff, regaling themwith tales of the “good ol’ days.”For Reid, the “good ol’ days” were <strong>Embry</strong>-<strong>Riddle</strong>’s years at theMiami Campus. He fondly remembers his undergraduate time andrecalls some of his training. “When I was here, you were required tolearn aerobatics to get your certificate. I was the master of the Split S,”Reid says, chuckling. He admits that aerobatic flying was not exactlyhis calling. Instead, he owned and operated Reid Tyre CommercialFerry Flying out of Jessup, Ga.The <strong>Alumni</strong> Association would like to extend a sincere thank youfor his years of service as a great university ambassador. He truly exemplifiesthe <strong>Alumni</strong> Association motto, “Forever an Eagle.”VERONICAFLOODREMEMBEREDReid Tyre has had manyfriends over his manyyears at <strong>Embry</strong>-<strong>Riddle</strong>,but perhaps few wereas important to him asVeronica Flood (’82, DB),who died in 1984 doingwhat she loved best—flying. Reid remembersVeronica to this day asa morally upright andbeautiful person andhe speaks of her often,holding her memoryclose to his heart.
