Developmental StudiesDevelopmental courses help prepare individuals for admission to the occupational-technical programand to the college transfer-university parallel program at the College.Specialized Regional and Community ServicesThe facilities and personnel of the College are available to provide specialized services for meeting theneeds of the region. These services include cultural events, workshops, meetings, lectures, conferencesand seminars. Special community programs at LFCC provide cultural and educational opportunities forarea residents.LFCC Educational Foundation Inc.The Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation Inc. is an independent, not-for-profitentity dedicated to assisting the College in meeting its current and future needs. Its purpose is togenerate support and resources for the College beyond those provided by the Commonwealth ofVirginia.Incorporated in 1978, the Foundation is committed to raising funds for academic programs, facilityupgrades, equipment, student scholarships and professional development for employees. Privatecontributions ensure that the College is able to keep its promise and pledge of providing increasingacademic excellence and expanding business and industry services.The Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c) (3) organization. All gifts are tax deductible asallowed by law. For income tax purposes, the federal identification number for the Foundation is 51-0247624. Administrative InformationAdmission RequirementsGeneral Admission to the CollegeAny person who has a high school diploma, its equivalent, or is 18 years of age, and is able to benefitfrom a program at the College may be admitted to LFCC as a curricular or noncurricular student. TheCollege evaluates special cases for acceptance.All students must submit a completed application to the Admissions and Records Office using the onlineapplication available at http://apply.vccs.edu or the printed application available at the Admissions andRecords Offices of the College. The applicant’s Social Security number is required to receive selectservices from the College. High school and previous college/university transcripts are not requiredunless otherwise specified.The College may require additional information for admission.Minors under the age of 18 are considered for admission with signed consent from a parent/legalguardian and approval from the minor’s public school. Home-schooled minors and their parents shouldcontact the Admissions and Records Office for admission requirements.The College reserves the right to evaluate and document special cases and to refuse or revoke admissionif the College determines that the applicant poses a threat or is a potential danger to the collegecommunity or if such refusal or revocation is considered to be in the best interest of the College.Students whose admission is revoked after enrollment must be given due process. Unlessmeeting an exception (see page 19) all new students are required to take placement tests in English,reading and math. The results of these tests are used to help students and advisors determine appropriatecourse selection. Students whose scores indicate specific needs may be required to enroll in andsuccessfully complete skills improvement courses prior to college course work.
