Two frame sizesare available: Frame B (45 mm) formotors with FLA ratings up to 32Aand Frame D (55 mm) covers motorFLA ratings up to 63A.Application DescriptionThe XTPB and XTPR MMPs can beused in the following applications.Motor Protective Circuit BreakerIn many countries outside of theUnited States and Canada, especiallyEurope, the MMPs are tested andclassified as thermal magnetic circuitbreakers for use in motor branchcircuits. This can be an importantconsideration for all companies whoexport their equipment and machinesinternationally. Both the XTPB andXTPR conform to IEC/EN 60947 andhave the CE Mark.Manual Motor ProtectorsThe XTPB and XTPR MMPs are UL Listedunder UL 508 as Manual Motor Protectors. They provide an economical solutionfor applications requiring simplemanual starting and stopping of motors. When used as an MMP, they are typicallyinstalled in an enclosure. Many enclosuresare offered as accessories for theMMPs. Separate short-circuit protectivedevices, such as circuit breakers orfuses, are wired ahead of the MMPs. Theshort-circuit protective device should besized per the NEC code and should notexceed 400% of the maximum FLA dialsetting of the MMP.Group Motor InstallationsA Group Motor Installation can bedefined as more than one motor circuitprotected by a single set of fuses or circuitbreaker on a motor branch circuit. This eliminates the need for individualfuses or circuit breakers for eachmotor circuit. Substantial componentcost savings, panel space savings andreduced wiring installation time can beachieved in Group Motor Installations. The MMPs are tested and listed forgroup installation. If remote operationis required, a magnetic contactor canbe wired in series with the MMP. SeeFigure 98.Article 430.53 of the National ElectricCode contains the rules and requirementsfor Group Motor Installations.Refer to Application Note AP03402001Efor NEC requirement for group motorinstallation. To SupplyXTPRDisconnectFusesXTPRXTPROr CircuitBreakerManualMotorProtectorMagnetic Contactor(Used forRemote Control)MotorsFigure 98. This typeof controller is a legitimate short circuitprotective device and disconnectmeans for the downstream motor. Itdoes require an upstream feeder shortcircuit protective device, but does notrequire a dedicated branch circuit protectionor a disconnect means. A UL508 Type E rating means that the unitclears a fault and does not experienceany welding of the power poles. A UL508 Type E self-protected manual combinationstarter will remain fully functionalshould a short circuit within itsratings occur.A UL 508 Type F Self-protected CombinationMotor Controller consists of aUL 508 Listed Type E Self-protectedManual Combination Starter/MotorController, a UL Listed Contactor, andpossibly a UL Listed Line Side Adapter. While the Type E self-protected manualmotor controller of this combinationmotor controller device is a legitimateshort circuit protective device anddisconnect means for the downstreammotor, the contactor is not“self-protected.” E.g. XTCE007 –XTCE065.In addition, as a complete assembly ormodular components, the device shouldhave Type 2 Coordination certification.Type 2 Coordination means the Starter orthe Controller must exhibit little or no damagefollowing a major short circuit faultand should be able to be returned to properservice without replacing any parts.Component in a CombinationMotor ControllerThe XTPB and XTPR MMPs can also bewired in series with a magnetic contactorto complete the assembly of aremotely operated, combination motorcontroller. For more information visit: www.eaton.comCA03407001E
