Pharmaceutical <strong>in</strong>terventions always <strong>in</strong>volve ongo<strong>in</strong>g expenses and thereare often risks. The conclud<strong>in</strong>g statement provides a challenge for physiotherapy:“Should what is fundamentally a lifestyle issue really be treated with a lifelong course of medication? Ascompliance is the key to the success of lifestyle <strong>in</strong>terventions, strategies to assist compliance need to becarefully thought through and implemented.”The value of lifestyle <strong>in</strong>terventions is cont<strong>in</strong>ually be<strong>in</strong>g recognised, the ma<strong>in</strong> two be<strong>in</strong>g alterations <strong>in</strong> dietand <strong>in</strong>creases <strong>in</strong> physical activity.Physiotherapists are the health professionals who are recognised as providers of physical activityprogrammes, especially for those requir<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>dividualised programme.
