LONGSTRETH STICK GLOSSARYWHICH STICK SHOULD I CHOOSE?We have our sticks divided into four distinct categories to help youselect a stick that is perfect for you! Throughout our catalog, you willfind that each stick has an icon next to it indicating its level. To viewour entire stick guide, visit www.longstreth.comSTICK TERMINOLOGYPower/Carbon Content Simply put, the more carbon, the more power!Consequently, increased carbon translates into greater stiffness in thestick, making receiving more challenging. Most players need to find the rightbalance of power and feel to suit their game.ELITE STICKS Thesticks in this groupcombine innovationand technology to createthe most advanced hockey sticksin the world. They are on the cuttingedge of development so they evolveeach year with the game! These sticksare designed to maximize power withoutsacrificing touch.ADVANCED STICKSThis group of sticksis cutting edge forthe progressive athlete. They are powerful, but moreflexible and forgiving than the elitesticks. These typically have a littleless carbon than the elite stickswhich allows for a softer touch andincreased control for the advancedplayer honing their skills.COMPETITIVESTICKS The sticksyou find in thiscategory cater to awide range of skill levels. They areflexible, which enhances ball controland assists in clean receptions. Theyalso produce less vibration than stickswith higher carbon content while stillproviding adequate power for thedeveloping player.JUNIOR/WOODThese sticks are amust for players whoare just beginning. While developing basic skills, power ofa stick is not the focus. Instead, maximumcontrol is necessary for a playerto master the basic skills of hockey.Weight For each composite stick we offer, we include an approximate weight fora 36-36.5” stick. You can assume each additional inch will add approximately10 grams.Scoop This technology refers to a 2mm groove in the toe of the stick, which varies in length but runs up the shaft of the stick. This feature aidsin cradling the ball for heightened control in ball handling, lifts (both forehandand backhand), drag flicking assistance, and aerial skills.Vibration As a stick’s carbon content increases, there is a tendency for greatervibration or sting in the handle. Vibration does not necessarily equate to thestick being broken. Manufacturers have added features within the stick handleto specifically address and ultimately absorb the vibration. Additionally, sticksneed to warm up just like their owners! Give your stick a chance to warm up foroptimal performance!Bow All composite sticks have a bow from the handle to the toe. Most stickshave a bow measuring at least 19mm, while the elite level sticks will have a bowcloser to 25mm. We offer four bow profiles represented throughout our stick line!WHAT SIZE STICK?No exact science exists for choosing the correct length of stick. Players havedifferent preferences based on their level of play and what feels best tothem. We suggest selecting a length based on your height. Hold the stick atyour side, the top should be 1-2 inches below your waist.HeightStick Length4’0” and under 28”4’1” – 4’3” 30”4’4” – 4’6” 32”4’7” – 5’0” 34”5’1” – 5’3” 35.5” (35”)5’4” – 5’6” 36.5” (36”)5’7” – 5’9” 37.5” (37”)5’10” + 38”ABOUT THE COVERLongstreth proudly features Paige Selenski on our 2014-15 FieldHockey cover.
