165law of thermodynamics. The energy earlier extracted and embodied incapital cannot keep its form forever nor can the growth of entropy beavoided. The new energy extracted by people is used both to increase andto compensate for retired wealth.Similar to racing the survival championship makes businessmen run adistance which has no finish. They are running not tracks but ratherconveyors traveling in the opposite direction with different speeds.Naturally this pursuit of an uncertain price is lost by those laggingbehind. But their exit affords the leaders no opportunity to halt or to takea breath. The launching of a new higher quality product changes the rules of thestruggle for survival. In the example discussed above the usage of a higher quality productresults in the consumer’s cost saving which the consumer partially shareswith the producer purchasing the high quality product at a higher price. But this example only illustrates the simplest case when the effect ofhigher quality is achieved in the second link of the “producer-consumer”chain. In real life the effect’s translation along the chain may take a longtime. Moreover, in certain cases the effect is achieved provided acombination of several new factors: materials, equipment, fuel, etc. Suchcombination may result in a new technology enabling the consumer’s costsaving or a new product comprising a fundamentally new quality, anexample being new missiles or household appliances. The switching to new materials and equipment involves a complexprocess of balancing interests.New materials and new equipment provide for the consumer’s transitionto the improvement of existing or the development of innovativetechnologies enhancing its production efficiency. The effect of the newquality of materials and equipment is achieved by the consumer along
