Students are highlymotivated to participate in thelearning process because the SMARTBoard speaks their language oftechnology.Boards is that it puts new tools intothe teacher’s hands and encourages‘out of the box’ teaching, whichenables more students to be reachedthrough interactive learning,” saidVick. “It breaks down the barriers ofPage 14Liberty Lifetraditional teaching and gets moreinto the technological world of ourstudents.”SMART Boards have also helped Vickconnect lessons to the real world,which helps students retain learning.Geometry teacher Kenalea Haileyadded, “The SMART Board can do somany great things that are interactiveand in full color – my lessons havetaken on new life!“As we teach with the SMARTBoard, we can easily insert interactivedrawings, games, videos, and more,which helps maintain the attentionof the students. Now students likecoming up to the board to answerquestions or label geometric shapesusing all of the different pen options.“The SMART Board has challengedme as a teacher to make changes in mylessons and search for new ways toexplain geometric concepts. I believeit is growing me as an educator andmaking learning more interestingfor the students – it is win-winsituation!”Upper School math teacher StephenCook is also using the SMART Boardin his classroom.“The SMART Boards have been anawesome resource. We hope to usethem to draw students into oureveryday mathematics lesson. I havehad numerous volunteers coming tothe front of the classroom to aid inpresenting the lesson. I have alwaysfelt that I needed to get the studentsmore involved in the lesson, and Ithink that SMART technology ishelping with that! This technology isforcing me to think of new ways ofpresenting material and helping me tostay on my toes as a teacher!” he said.Vick concluded by saying, “Theteachers in the math department arevery excited about having SMARTBoards in their classrooms thisyear. We are committed to buildinga strong math foundation for ourstudents and preparing them toexperience success each step of theway, including SAT and ACT scores.With SMART Boards and the new4MAT, our goal is to reach, motivate,and inspire all students in the learningprocess.”
