TEXAS HORNSHELL (Popenaias popeii)Threatened (legally) TPWD – Candidate USFWS• Endemic to the Rio Grande & other systems in northeastern Mexico.• U.S. populations have been reduced to small numbers in four areas: onesite in NM, & the Devils River, an area of the Rio Grande between BigBend and the Pecos River, & the lower Rio Grande in the vicinity ofLaredo, Texas.– No populations appear to have been documented in Mexico in recent years.
