DeschampsTel: 0033 (1) 57 42 42 50At the junction of a park and aport area, a building exploresfacets of environmental quality.Located at the independent port and next to theRancy departmental park, the new building forthe management of the technical departments ofBonneuil-sur-Marne, Framce is fitted out to meet therequirements of High Enviromental Quality (HQE).These two elements, the port area and the park, are what gave a framework for the architecturalproject for the Pierre Lombard office. “We tookinto account the sharp, topographical and urbancontrast”, recounts Pierre Lombard, “using a green, more countrified approach for the park side and moreindustrial for the port side”.To link the site with the park, located 15 metresabove, a footpath descends a slope planted withbushes and vines. At the foot of the slope, there isa large pool for storms and to hold rainwater. Thisreservoir, planted with rushes, iris and reeds, is usedto water the town’s green spaces and for washingthe municipality’s vehicles. On the port side, the entrance to the building isbelow a wide overhang like a container, matching theindustrial nature of its environment. The town’s technical departments and their manager,Philippe Cottereau, were heavily involved in theproject. The environmental approach was one oftheir requirements, with one critical issue, reusingrainwater. Of course, the whole programme took partin the sustainable development approach, with allthe requirements of a clean site with little pollution:waste sorted as they go along, structure made ofprefabricated concrete, recycling the foundations ofthe old building as fill for the slope etc.The design of the buildings, workshops, stores andoffices offer a range of systems for optimal energysavings and a very environmentally conscious life. For example, the bio-climatic workshops.“The shop, on the south side, has a thermal functionas a buffer space”, explains Pierre Lombard. “Ametal grille has been included on the inside. In winterthe sun comes through the Danpalon and the grilletemperature rises; the cushion of warm air therebycreated helps pre-heat the workshops.”Linking betweentwo worldsThe offices, which are situated underneath the workshops, are modular and havea planted terrace roof, decorated with pergolas dressed with wisteria. Facing thepark, it is clearly accessible to all for a short, pleasant pause. The offices have a lot ofglass space that is protected by “democratic”, retractable Persian blinds, says PierreLombard: they can be adjusted to suit each user.“I’m a fan of Danpalon. We have employed it, in different ways, on three sides of thebuilding. It provides better insulation than double-glazing, it is less expensive than acurtain wall, while its translucence spreads the light softly”, he concludes.Installation contractor: DBS Entreprise, Etréchy Tel: +33 (1) 69 58 24 38 E-mail: dbsentreprise@aol.com 1370 m2 Cladding Danpalon 16 MC 1040mm Clear.3
