When walls arebathed in lightChristophe Aubaily,ArchitectTel: +33 (5) 62 27 00 70Breathing new life into the Hotan restaurantin Portet-sur-Garonne, France, by giving it atouch of “contemporary Toulouse”; that was thechallenge for the Aubailly architectural firm.Every area was completely rearranged and givena new look. The restaurant was moved to theplace of an old swimming pool covered with atranslucent veranda.Diningon the verandaThe only small worry, as with all areas of glass, are the noisy storms in the region… “We are inthe process of finding solutions together with theEverlite team. A canvas sheet will be clipped tothe sides. It will let through the water and largelyreduce the noise of impact,” he“We retained the idea of this veranda, but at thesame time we wanted colour and lots of light”,explained Christophe Aubailly, the architect.“Using the very wide colour choice of Danpalon,we achieved both, dynamic colours with light”.Clients are delighted to dine under the orange, blue and green cover, and clearly appreciate thisnew and original atmosphere.Installation contractor: Module in Roubaix Tel: +33 (3) 28 42 12 00 Website: www.module59.com.Printing and screen-printing: Atelier Deco Lighting and lighting effects: SATELEC280 m2 partitions of Danpalon MC 8mm Opal with digital printing.Installation contractor: S.A Carre in Tournefeuille, France Tel: +33 (5) 61 78 27 03 Website: www.carre-sa.com 110 m2 Classing and Covering of Danpalon 16MC 600mm Orange, Blue and Green.Atelier Zero3.2SteenvoordeTel: +33 (3) 28 43 15 44Website: www.zero32.frA musicalboxArotcharen,Bayonne, FranceTel: +33 (5) 59 31 40 56Since January 2008 the Lille Grand Palais has offered multifunctional areas for holdingseminars, lectures, cocktails and exhibitions. The main layout proposed by the Zero3.2 architects office facilitated containing thespace between two walls of screen-printed light that connected the rooms. These walls offer a range of lighting atmospheres that are well suited to themultifunctional character of the place. The transparency of the walls cannot be noticedonce the lights are switched off and the walls take on again their white, opaqueappearance.“We needed a multi-wall polycarbonate so as not to see the screen printing oncethe lights were off”, explained the architects. Danpalon quickly established itself aseconomically the best solution. Technically, its resistance suits the use of the placewhile its weight facilitates being taken down easily for maintenance of the lighting.Aesthetically, the possibility of being able to screen print was particularly interesting”.In the Lille Grand Palais, built entirely of concrete and steel, these areas are a sort ofplace apart. The Zero3.2 architects team chose to print a graphic plant theme on theback of the Danpalon. That way, when the walls of light come on the areas appear toexpand. It is the loss of the physical limitations of the spaces and the plant-like atmosphere ofthe walls of light that give the place its magic.Located in a business area on the Joncaux plain on a very busy road, connecting thecentre of Hendaye (64) with Urrugne, the Bidassoa shopping centre is housed in a buildingintended mainly for services.“We thought up an attractive box that would cause pleasure and express the pleasant andleisurely nature of the shopping centre and not just its utilitarian aspect. It’s a sort of glittering“box of sweets”, from where came the idea of using stainless steel and coloured bands underthe Danpalon,” says the architect, Mr. Arotcharen. The graphic displays all the movement of a Vasarely picture with repeated, irregular andalternate bands of colour. This very pop art, coloured sweep, sublimated by the Danpalon, evokes a musical score with notes that rise and fall as part of musical creation…“The strong point about Danpalon is its creative strength”, he explains. “But while we wereconfident about the suitability of Danpalon on the north side, where the light is soft, we had ourdoubts about the side wall, which could have had too much reflection. However, it turned outto be very pleasant.”“The Danpalon was applied like an outer skin, superimposed over a painted wall, giving thebuilding a contemporary look and providing a strong identity for the town’s new medical centre. Its outside makes a dynamic impression, which continuously changes with the light and theobserver’s position”, says Guillaume Cosculluella, the project manager.4Installation contractor: Alkar in Mauleon, France Tel: +33 (5) 59 28 30 79 Website: www.alkar.fr Lining of painted walls 430m2 Danpalon Cladding Danpalon MC 10mm reversed 600mm Clear.5
