Integral fenders protect your dinghy orkayak, and optional patio rails provide stability forentering or exiting the dink. The overhead hard top protecting the cabin door isquite a bit larger than that found on the R-25, and it’snicely guttered to keep water away from the cabinentrance. The cockpit bimini was designed by DaveLivingston so that you can fold it forward quickly forfishing rod clearance and still have an eyebrow ondamp days. Twin zippered flaps open to improveclearance when boarding or disembarking. The fulllengthDiamond/Sea-Glaze cabin door is designed tobe stout enough to withstand a boarding wave in badconditions while providing clear views to thehelmsperson and those inside the cabin.A PLEASING INTERIORTeak paneling is new on the main cabin sides, echoing the built-in teak lockers and helm consoles.Teak-and-holly soles on the centerline, under theportside dinette, and in the forward cabin add a classylook. Beneath the hinged and gas-cylinder-supportedmidship cabin overhead door, there’s a desk with a 12-volt outlet and a foldaway chair. There’s also a hangingrod and a double berth extending under the raiseddinette that is almost 7 feet in length, perfect for kidsor adults.Headroom in the main cabin is increased on theR-27 to 6 feet 6 inches, taller going forward. The largeteak dinette table is mounted on a high-low gas-pistonpedestal, not the two legs used on the R-25. Droppeddown, it turns into a convertible berth. A quick flip ofthe forward dinette seat converts it to a forward-facingpassenger seat opposite the helm. Forward of the seat, you’ll find a glove box and a Fusion stereo systemas standard equipment. The stereo is made specificallyfor marine use, with AM/FM/CD and an iPoddocking station. To starboard, the hinges on the folding helm seat arecustom-made to help eliminate possible pinching asyou tilt the seat forward to create more countertoparea for meal prep. The helm seat not only tiltsforward but also swivels to add seating at anchor, andit slides forward and back to accommodate both shortandlong-legged skippers. The handsome teak helmhas integral handholds that make sense, but the browover the optional Garmin 5212 touch-screen MFDneeds to be trimmed back just a bit to improvevisibility along the upper edge of the display. There’sabundant room for the Garmin GHC10 autopilot andthe Yanmar engine screen. The electrical panel, locatedin the entrance to the forward cabin on the R-25, wasReprinted with permission.
