last Sunday brought out 69 partici-<br />

Relay Fun winners: Musha Ruiter, Peter<br />

Werdath and pam Werdath-Tietel<br />

and assorted childern<br />

pants of all ages – from young<br />

teens to 66 years! There were allkid<br />

teams, mixed kid-adult teams,<br />

all-men, allwomen<br />

or mixedsex<br />

teams. It was<br />

a family affair<br />

with nonparticipating<br />

family members<br />

cheering on their<br />

favorite, shooting<br />

photos or running<br />

after them to give<br />

them water.<br />

The Jong <strong>Bonaire</strong><br />

Franklin “Paco”<br />

Veeris, went all<br />

out to put on a<br />

Relay Fun competitors: Julius Melaan, Thasjana Rosario and<br />

Gilbert Seraus<br />

very professional, well-run event.<br />

There was plenty of water, juice,<br />

oranges to keep the athletes hydrated<br />

and a nutritious meal afterwards.<br />

Times were kept – to the<br />

second – and just a short time after<br />

the last to finish the awards ceremony<br />

was held with the final results<br />

– to a standing room only<br />

audience.<br />

The Triathlon consisted of<br />

swimming, biking and running in<br />

two categories: recreational (fun)<br />

and professional.<br />

The distances are as follows:<br />

Recreational (Fun) - 850 meters<br />

swimming, 11.6 kilometers<br />

biking, and 5 kilometers running.<br />

Professional - 1500 meters<br />

swimming, 23.2 kilometers biking,<br />

and 10 kilometers running.<br />
