Executive summaryTypes of e-Skills in demandFrom literature and research it is known that demand for e-Skills is not universal but relatedto specific bottlenecks. A recent INSEAD (2009) report concludes that Europe’s skills issue isnot one of quantity, nor of quality, but rather of matching and of fluidity, that is the abilityof the skills pool to undergo continuous changes and adapt to new challenges. The fastchange in demand for e-Skills makes it difficult to monitor the types of skills that are most indemand. However, the most recent studies dealing with the type of e-skills in demandshowed that for 2008 these were e-skills related to “security/firewall/data privacy “as wellas “soft” skills (customer service, dales, project management, communication etc), “nonspecificserver technology” and “general networking and network infrastructure” (CompTIA2008). System architects and project managers were also in high demand (IDC Insight March2009).This report should be understood as a stock-tacking enterprise of the eSkills situation today. It represents the groundwork from which the study assesses likely future scenarios. Thereforethe present report is to be complemented by a report on forecasting e-Skills supply and demandwhich will be produced shortly.11
