Transcendingthe clichés of a May-December lovestory, Chayefsky’s script and Delbert Mann’sdirection convey a humanity and depth thatwere evident in Marty, their previous collaboration.The television and theatrical versionsof this story were more overtly Jewish thanthe film (the stage version starred EdwardG.
