Hard-cover letterpressbook including ten colour process lithographs,nine process screen prints, and two silver gelatinphotographs, some tipped in, 336 pages, SydneyTechnical College embossing to cover and stampsto several pages, 29.4 x 23.6cm. Slight scuffs tocover with clear self-adhesive plastic to spine andcorners, cloth tape with stitching to inner hinges,discolouration to end papers and edges of somepages, minor foxing and soiling to first pages. $1,750Stamps include “The property of Sydney TechnicalCollege” (de-accessioned). Some images show the actualsize of slices of bread. This book has been described as“an extraordinary obsessive monograph on bread and amasterpiece of unintentional photographic art.”Owen Simmons was a lecturer at the National School of Bakeryin London. He held many bread making and baking distinctionsincluding being the top ranking United Kingdom bread makingmedalist in 1886. He wasobsessive about bread,and in 1903 published TheBook of Bread, an unusuallydetailed technical manualcontaining highly illustrativephotographs almost surrealin their appearance, showingbread in all its forms. Slight oxidation tometal. Lock in good working order. $990Accompanied with Arthur Shaw and Com -pany’s catalogue Illustrated List of RegisteredTrademark Locks and Keys. The lock mightbe European or English in origin and madeduring the early 19th century. The handle andother hardware seem to have been madelater around 1900. This door lock appears tohave been never used and might have been adisplay sample.19. Clocks And Decorative Objects, c1908. Cloth-bound album including 46 silvergelatin photographs, two process screen prints, and 21 ink and wash drawings, somewith pencil or gouache, album titled in ink on cover, annotated in ink on front endpaper,most photographs captioned in ink on album page below image, some annotated inanother hand in pencil on image, 23.7 x 30.4cm. Stains and some wear to cover, minorsilvering to some photographs, drawings are laid down on album pages. $4,400Annotation includes “E.F. Jackson, Old Place, Hunton Bridge, Herts [Hertfordshire, UK].” All thephotographs are of clocks from the 18th to 19th centuries. The drawings included in the album are ofdecorative architectural objects.5
