Service Description: The Home Library Service<br />

delivers library materials to housebound readers, on a<br />

regular day each fortnight. This service is available to<br />

temporarily or permanently incapacitated persons with<br />

suitable referral (see below). Also caters for Aged Centres,<br />

such as Retirement Villages and Senior Citizens groups,<br />

with bulk loans; visits Nursing Homes for individual<br />

deliveries and bulk loans. Special collection of cassettes<br />

and CDs available for print handicapped.<br />

Service Description: Contains information on the<br />

history, environment and development of the <strong>Sutherland</strong><br />

<strong>Shire</strong>. Sources include histories, reports, journals,<br />

magazines. The Collection also houses an extensive<br />

collection of historical photographs (available for viewing<br />

on the library website), maps, looseleaf information and<br />

newspapers which are all indexed for information on the<br />

lives of local people, places and events. A special<br />

collection of oral history recordings, council and<br />

community archives can be used for research, and access is<br />

available to minutes of <strong>Council</strong> meetings from 1906 to date.<br />

The Library is interested in collecting any information<br />

relating to the <strong>Sutherland</strong> <strong>Shire</strong>. Donations or loan of<br />

material for copying can be arranged by contacting the<br />

Local Studies Librarian on 9710 0225. The Local Studies<br />

Room is open during Library hours.<br />

Service Description: The Mayoral Ball is one of the<br />

premier black-tie events on the <strong>Shire</strong>'s social calendar. In<br />

addition to the presentation of debutantes, the night also<br />

serves as a fundraiser for a local charity. The next Mayoral<br />

Ball will be on Saturday 5 June 2010. Guests who attend<br />

the Ball will have a terrific night’s entertainment with good<br />

food and company. The event includes presentation of the<br />

debutantes, pre-dinner drinks, a three-course dinner and<br />

live entertainment. Enquiries are now open for debutantes<br />

for the Mayoral Ball in 2010. Having your name placed on<br />

the waiting list does not oblige you to be a debutante - final<br />

confirmation is not required until the end of 2009 and you<br />

will be contacted prior to this to discuss your application.<br />

Service Description: Centre-based social groups for<br />

frail older people from Chinese, Greek and Italian speaking<br />

background. We also offer a multicultural group for people<br />

from other NESB (CALD) backgrounds. Monthly bus trips<br />

also provided. Groups meet in Caringbah.<br />

Service Description: Monthly meeting of services for<br />

migrants and refugees in the <strong>Shire</strong> and those involved in<br />

service delivery to the ethnic community. Aims to promote<br />

and increase awareness in communities, government<br />

departments and other service providers, of the need for<br />

culturally/linguistically relevant services for people from<br />

non-English speaking backgrounds.<br />
