Diana Bajoie,who has been a fixture in NewOrleans politics for several decades,said that the problem is not simplyabout crime but of access to resourcesand that it is important to work onother things such as improving educationaland economic opportunitiesto combat crime.While the city is in recovery modethere has been an economic falloutand the city is struggling waiting forsomething to ignite the economic enginethat will jumpstart the local economy.Longtime elected official andformer New Orleans City CouncilpersonJackie Clarkson, said during theforum, “I have served for thirty-eightyears as a private and public personmaking an impact providing jobs andthat is what I’ll continue to do if I amelected.” Former New Orleans CAOKimberly Williamson-Butler who wasrecently exonerated from eventsstemming from her stint as Clerkof Court of the City of New Orleanssaid, “I have a wealth of experienceworking in different cities such asNew York and San Francisco, as aconsulting revitalization specialist,and I have helped those and aidedthem in becoming viable cities thatvalue diversity and giving the citizensthe power to define what theywant for their neighborhoods’, andin this crucial time for New OrleansI want to help the citizens of the citydo the same thing.”As the election grows closer manycitizens are not back in their homes,and many more are still displaced,this is a major issue of concern tothe voters.
