<strong>2007</strong> <strong>Wisconsin</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> <strong>Journal</strong>4. Mission Motivation is focusing on these areas to enhance our conference’s involvementin Mission work:a. Create a Circuit Advocate for Missions program, in which each circuit will beinvited to name a contact person for missions information and activities.b. Develop the new People Touching People Manual for 2008 Quadrennium, askingeach agency and program approved for Advance Specials to renew its applicationand inviting and approving new ones.c. Establish a Global Mission Parternship program, inviting churches to respondto certain criteria to be recognized as being committed to Mission awarenessand giving.d. We are looking at ways to focus on our youth and young people, both pastorsand laity, with the intent of getting them involved them at an earlier age in missionactivity.e. Through our new <strong>Conference</strong> Mission Secretary, Robert Odum, and the DistrictMission Secretaries we will continue to invite local churches to host ourown Mission Interpreters and itinerating missionaries as they spend time in<strong>Wisconsin</strong> during the year. We continue to challenge each local church in ourconference to participate in at least one Advance Special this year.5. Reconciling Ministries will continue to strengthen its connection with and evaluationof the various ecumenical ministries receiving support from the committee.They will explore innovative ways to support those missions through connectionswith the Circuit Teams in those areas. An emphasis in 2006 will be to visit each ofthe projects that receives funding through Reconciling Ministries. This committeewelcomed Rosalind Dryver-Scott as their new chair.6. Disaster Response will continue to work with the School for Christian Mission totrain workers with children in a disaster. If not actively engaged in an operation,we will do a readiness drill. We will continue to participate in the Voluntary OrganizationsAssisting Disasters (VOADs) at the state and county levels. We arecommitted to a higher level of training and readiness so that we can be equal anddependable partners in the relief and recovery phases of a disaster.BOARD OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND STUDENT MINISTRY (BHESM)A. Introductory CommentsAs an agency of the <strong>Wisconsin</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> and the General Church (GBHEM), the missionof the Board of Higher Education and Student Ministry is to facilitate, nurture, support,and network with campus ministries, campus ministers, Wesley Foundations,<strong>United</strong> Methodist schools and local churches in order to support students in postsecondaryeducation and to develop a new generation of Christians committed to faith.B. Highlights and Accomplishments of the Past Year• During the 2006 year, our Board used our apportioned dollars to grant eight campusministries a total of $94,000 including Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Menomonie,Milwaukee, Platteville, River Falls, and Whitewater.<strong>Conference</strong> Boards249
