Marketa SestakovaMarketa Sestakova was born 17 January 1952,in Rokycany (Czech Republic). She grew up in achildren’s home following the sudden death of hermother. During a search for her roots she discoveredthe world of the Roma. She also found a husbandand a new life. Sestakova worked as an unskilledlabourer but lost her job in the early 1990s. Becauseof this she was able to devote more time to her artisticpassion – embroidered depictions of Roma life.All of Sestakova’s works are original and she drawsall the patterns herself.
