It unites chambers from 10countries – the national chamber organizations of Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria,Cyprus, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Turkey.The Partnership Project DIHK – ABC has been running since January 2001. The two partnerson this Project are the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK)and the Association of Balkan Chambers (ABC). It is financed by the German FederalMinistry of Economic Cooperation and Development BMZ.The DIHK-ABC Project is evaluated as one of the most successful partnership initiativeson the Balkans and thus has been prolonged twice. Its main objective is “Promotionof intraregional trade and revitalisation of business relations with the European Union,especially Germany by institutional strengthening of the ABC by improving networkingactivities”.In the framework of the Project many activities and events have been organized andcarried out. From the very beginning in January 2001 till the end of 2008 about 120seminars for chamber staff and companies from the Balkan region have been carried out.The total number of participants at those seminars is about 3 000. In the framework ofthe Project about 20 big events such as conferences, business forums, common stands ofthe ABC at international fairs, cooperation meetings, business delegations to Germany,etc. have been organized with more than 2 400 participants. According to the Project aimsabout 40 trainings of chamber staff to Germany have been realized and 35 publicationshave been elaborated and printed.Additionally the Project supports the ABC chamber members in their QMS certificationprocess as till the end of 2008 4 ABC chambers have been certified in QMS and 1chamber is in certification process. The Project also supports the chambers by providingtechnical equipment for their needs. A very important achievement of the Project workis the establishment of 4 ABC working groups – European integration, Trade facilitation,Information network and Project sustainability.The DIHK-ABC Project helped in setting a sustainable working environment for continuingexecuting different ABC initiatives after the end of the Project in 2010.
