In the office, Ralph did business withthe help of his assistant, Newman Noggs. Newman Noggswas a tall, thin man witha red nose. Every day, hesat in a little room fromnine-thirty until fiveo’clock. Ralph made hisassistant work hard anddidn’t pay him muchmoney.One day, Ralph wasreturning from a businessmeeting when NewmanNoggs came out to meethim in the street.6
