International Journal of Computer Science and Management Research Vol 1 Issue 4 November 2012ISSN 2278-733XCompanies uses this technology to track assets andinventory, streamline operations and business processes orprovide customer services will create and leverage anRFID infrastructure to achieve even more benefits. Thistechnology is increasing rapidly in this field.C. RFID Helps and Prevent Sewer DisastersThe Village of Thiensville is tracking its main sewer line,to determine whether and where it's safe for contractors andhomeowners to dig by using this technology. In this fieldthis technology ensures that the area is safe or not for theconstruction purpose.D. Undersea With RFIDEarly adopters are exploring the benefits of tracking andmonitoring underwater assets within one of the planet'smost challenging environments. Underwater radio trackingand monitoring is now beginning to draw the attention ofoil companies, military services, scientific researchers andAquarium.E. RFID Energy-Management Systems for Data CentersWireless solutions monitor these facilities in real time tokeep them cool, while reducing power consumption andcosts. That makes data centers among the biggest energyconsumers within enterprises. According to a reportreleased in September 2011 by Datacenter Dynamics, aLondon-based research firm, data centers worldwide wereexpected to consume 19 percent more energy in the next 12months than they had in the past year.IV. ADVANTAGES1. RFID tags are very simple to install/inject inside thebody of animals, thus helping to keep a track on them. This is useful in animal husbandry and on poultryfarms. The installed RFID tags give informationabout the age, vaccinations and health of the animals.2. It is better than bar codes as it cannot be easilyreplicated and therefore, it increases the security ofthe product.3. Supply chain management forms the major part ofretail business and RFID systems play a key role bymanaging updates of stocks, transportation andlogistics of the product.4. Barcode scanners have repeatedly failed in providingsecurity to gems and jewelry in shops. But nowadays,RFID tags are placed inside jewelry items and analarm is installed at the exit doors.5. The RFID tags can store data up to 2 KB whereas, the bar code has the ability to read just 10-12 digits.6. The RFID Tags have longer range than the bar codes.7. The RFID Tags have read / write memory capabilitywhereas barcodes do not have this feature.8. The Installation process of RFID Technology doesnot take much time to get into the action.Fig. 1 Example of database warehousingV. DETRIMENTS1. It is difficult for an RFID reader to read theinformation in case of RFID tags installed in liquidsand metal products. The problem is that the liquidand metal surfaces tend to reflect the radio waves, which makes the tags unreadable. The tags have to beplaced in various alignments and angles for takingproper reading. This is a tedious task when the workinvolves big firms.2. Interference has been observed if devices such asforklifts and walkies-talkies are in the vicinity of thedistribution centers. The presence of mobile phonetowers has been found to interfere with RFID radiowaves. Wal-Mart, the retail sector giant, has installedbillions of RFID tags in their products throughout theworld and they have encountered such problems.3. The USA and Europe, for instance, have differentrange of frequencies that allow RFID tags to function. This makes it mandatory for international shippingcompanies and other organizations to be aware of theworking pattern of other nations also, which can bevery time-consuming.4. Consumers are apprehensive about their privacywhen they purchase products with RFID tags. Oncethe radio chips are installed in the product, thecustomer can be tracked and his personal informationSiddhanth Kokra et.al. 835 www.<strong>ijcsmr</strong>.org
