Divisional Secretaries aresupported by the field staff of the divisions and the Grama Niladaries. Monitoring theprogress of work and reporting in respect of quality and the status of completion of workis also a primary function of the Divisional Secretary.• Grama Niladhari (GN) – Duties / Responsibilities and FunctionsGrama Niladhari functions directly under the supervision of the Divisional Secretariat forall matters related to tsunami implementation activities in a division. The collection ofaccurate data from the village level in respect of wide range of information is the primaryresponsibility of the GN. The identification, initial assessment of damage and collectionof data on the tsunami victims and preparation of lists of beneficiaries and theirrequirements is also the responsibility of the Grama Niladhari.Grama Niladharies are directly responsible to implement on behalf of the DivisionalSecretary in their respective Divisions. The GN’s role is vital to both the GovernmentAgent and the Divisional Secretary in terms of maintaining the expected level ofadministration on ground.
