A Message to the Mediaon behalf of the players, tournaments, volunteers and our management team, welcome to the 2011 pga tour season. thank youfor your continued coverage and support.Section IntroductIon1tim Finchemcommissionerthe 2011 pga tour season marks the fifth since the inception of the FedExcup, our season-long points competition that has provideda strong, compelling conclusion to the golf season. Last year, Jim Furyk joined tiger Woods, a two-time FedExcup winner, and Vijay Singh as players who have ended their seasons holding the FedExcup. prior to what amounted to Jim’s $10-million putt towin the FedExcup in the rain at tHE tour championship presented by coca-cola, there was plenty of drama in the playoffs. mattKuchar thrilled everybody with his heroics at the Barclays—and went on to capture his first career pga tour official money title(the arnold palmer award) and adjusted scoring average title (the Byron Nelson award). charley Hoffman dominated in winningthe Deutsche Bank championship, and Dustin Johnson was superb at the BmW championship. ultimately, Jim prevailed as theplayer of the Year, not only because of his FedExcup and tour championship wins but also on the strength of his victories at theHeritage and the transitions championship.the greenbrier, a first-year event in West Virginia, was also a great success, highlighted by Stuart appleby’s final-round 59 thatgave him his first pga tour victory since 2006. and just a few weeks earlier, paul goydos was spectacular in the first round of theJohn Deere classic, shooting a 59 of his own. after playing the HSBc champions as a World golf championships event for the firsttime in 2009, we returned to Southeast asia for that event again in 2010, and the cImB asia pacific classic, a limited-field event, was a huge success in malaysia.Andy PazderExeuctive Vice presidnetand chief of operationsthis year’s official-money schedule features 45 events. We welcome Hyundai, cadillac and FedEx as new title sponsors in 2011, atour tournaments in Hawaii, miami and memphis, respectively. the Hyundai tournament of champions will open our season, with afield featuring last year’s tournament champions, while the World golf championships-cadillac championship promises to continueas strong as ever in South Florida. We’re delighted that FedEx has returned as title sponsor of the St. Jude classic, while we warmlywelcome Nationwide as the presenting sponsor of the memorial tournament in Dublin, oH.the Nationwide tour continued to showcase numerous up-and-coming stars. Last year, Jamie Lovemark was the top money-winner,and 24 other players earned their pga tour playing privileges. Jamie and the Nationwide tour graduates will join an exciting cropof young, emerging stars—like pga tour rookie of the Year rickie Fowler—who are poised to challenge the veteran performersof the pga tourcharity also remains a key component in all we do. truly, “together, anything’s possible” defines our players and tournaments withall the initiatives they participate in that do so much to help those in need.again, thank you for your continued coverage of the pga tour.
