It proved to be the one thing, the town wanted most.Children of all castes <strong>and</strong> religions receiving expert treatmentevery year number many thous<strong>and</strong>s as may be seen from theAnnual reports. <strong>Swami</strong> Sekharan<strong>and</strong>a instituted religiousworship of the Sevashrama, reading of scriptures <strong>and</strong> religiousclasses also in the Sevashrama. That also proved to be of verygreat help to many. The Vedanta Society's work also was takenover by <strong>Swami</strong> Sekharan<strong>and</strong>a. <strong>Swami</strong>ji was pleased to see thatthe Sevashrama was doing very useful work <strong>and</strong> had becomevery popular with all classes. It was the only Hindu ReligiousOrganisation in the principal town of the District. <strong>Swami</strong>ji wantedsomething more there than a Sevashrama for medicaltreatment. There was much scope for work of different kinds.The many influential gentlemen who met him there agreed withhim in that view. He prepared the ground <strong>and</strong> returned. In thistrip to Calicut <strong>Swami</strong>ji took with him the girl disciples ofOttapalam. They were all the guests of <strong>Swami</strong>ji's ardent devotee<strong>and</strong> disciple, Sri T. V. Krishnan Nair, who was the SubordinateJudge at Calicut at that time. For the first time in their lives thepoor girls saw the historic town of Calicut, the sea <strong>and</strong> the wideworld.<strong>His</strong> one last wish with regard to these children <strong>and</strong> his otherfemale devotees seemed to have been to take them himself tothe lotus feet of the Mother. As its external symbol, he decidedto take them to Kanyakumari. With a large party including themhe left Ottapalam in July 1937. Perfect arrangements weremade for the journey <strong>and</strong> the halts <strong>and</strong> for the stay in theAshrama at Triv<strong>and</strong>rum <strong>and</strong> also at the Cape. How he thoughtof the needs <strong>and</strong> comforts of every one of the party was worthstudy. No mother would have felt such solicitude for herchildren. He looked to every little item of their wants, even forhot-water baths for them. Every one felt supremely happy.He gave many nice little presents to the children, chains,lockets, etc. which he himself selected <strong>and</strong> purchased from the
