Recently El Paso lost twoof its landmarks. The population, like those of GrantCounty, were divided in their response to thedestruction. However from the "phoenix" new life ispromised in these areas of local historic importance.New life can also be birthed at Fort Bayard NationalHistoric Landmark. As the movement by the State of New Mexicodevelops to remove the 1922 Veteran's Hospital andlater N.M. Fort Bayard Medical Center from the FortBayard National Historic Landmark, the FBHPS willcontinue its efforts to preserve and share the storyof Grant County's Historic Landmark. Your storiesand pictures will be preserved and shared withfuture visitor to the site. Although the hospital thatserved so may will be removed, its story will remain. The FBHPS will be working with the National ParkService, and New Mexico Division of HistoricPreservation. It is IMPORTANT to know that thedesignation of National Historic Landmark will notbe lost.In April, just as students, dressed in their finest PromAttire came to visit Fort Bayard and take photos thatwill be shared in their future, we hope that otherswill make or renew connecions with the site.~ Cecilia Bell, PresidentCOMING SOON !!THE 73RD Annual Montosa CampMeetingJuly 24th - July 28th , 2013A CHRISTIAN CAMP FOR THE WHOLE FAMILYSINCE 1941Five days of family camping with worship, music, fellowship, games and activities for all. The voice on the other end tells you thatsomeone is missing. Who is important enough to get you out of bed?Fortunately, Catron County Search and Rescue (CCSAR), a group of Catron Countyvolunteers, will routinely answer that call.CCSAR, a non-profit organization, conducts New Mexico State Police authorizedsearches in Catron, Socorro, and Sierra counties. However, members have been called toother Districts as far as 150 miles away to support searches lasting extended periods oftime.CCSAR provides its members with opportunities, on foot or on your ATV, to see beautifulportions of Catron County well off the beaten path, while helping distraught familiesfind their missing loved ones.Few members walk in the SAR door with all the skills necessary to safely search for andrescue a subject. So, CCSAR has regular class room trainings and mock searches to ensureits members know how to read a map, use a GPS, use search techniques, and use a tworadiocomfortably.State sponsored trainings are held around New Mexico, and SAR members can learnand become credentialed to manage and oversee the teams in the field. One CCSARmember, Chuck Baker, has advanced to the position of Field Coordinator.Because of the size of Catron County, attending meetings and training can be difficult. There are provisions for creating "satellite teams" in the southern part of the county wherethe training can come to you.Catron County Search and Rescue is looking for folks interested in making a differencein a total stranger's life. There are few experiences more fulfilling than reuniting familymembers in the hills of Catron County.Catron County Search and Rescue is calling — won't you pick up the phone?Contact: Chuck Baker chuck.baker@nmsar.orgGene Brown gabredhill@yahoo.com (575) 773-4637 www.catroncountysar.org
