In this issue wereport on the success of the BNA Christmas symposiumthat focused on obesity (p30-31) as well as a very successfulmeeting held in Cambridge (p32-33). In the re-instigationof the Letter from America series, Jamie L Weiss discusses the importanceof giving undergraduate and A-level students the opportunity to take partin lab-based research (p12-13, Letter from America).Following on from the theme of the Christmas meeting this issue’sscience features highlight research being carried out at the Universitiesof Liverpool and Manchester investigating the role of PAI-1 in feeding(p18-19) and how dieting during pregnancy can affect the offspring’sweight later in life (p25). We also have an interesting article from theUniversity of Edinburgh on the role of glial cells and neurofascins inensuring efficient propagation of the neuronal action potential (p20-24 ).Pretty soon many of you will be attending the 8th Federation of<strong>Neuroscience</strong> 2012 meeting that is being held in Barcelona! RecentlyI have made what I think is around my 15th visit to this wonderful city(I’ve lost count). I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to sharewith you some of the exciting and beautiful places to visit (p34-37).Finally, it is with great sadness that this year <strong>Neuroscience</strong> lost one of itsgreats when Prof. Ainsley Iggo passed away.
