Therefore, one of the most important values of cultural interaction that we seek to realize through thisagreement and other accords is to stop over points of similarity and identification that might help insparking dialogue between civilizations. The other purpose is to examine the mistaken ideas in order tocorrect them. These can not be clarified without interaction among generations and their drive towardcommon thoughts, values and creative practices.PREFACEDenmark has achieved many cultural projects in Sharjah. We have achieved ours in Denmark. The annexedessays and papers point out the path taken by these activities as per the dates in both countries. They arevery significant activities that would enrich the experience within the framework of the developments thatoccur here and there. However, this requires an awareness of the educational and academic foundationsrepresented by the cooperation among colleges in universities, poets, dramatists, artists, intellectuals,architects, and other planners and legal personalities that contribute to the basic objective embodied inestablishing a strong relationship that aspires to realize a position for art in our two countries as well asthe realization of the value of architectural engineering and its horizons in creating means of peacefuland unbiased co-existence at the human level.All the contributions that we aspire to achieve in this meeting through poetry, lectures, visual arts,architecture, plastic arts, drama, cinema, graphics, and all activities that are related to metropolises andcities; all planned and sideline debates will drive us to gain greater confidence in the social value ofculture. Therefore, we really appreciate the great efforts exerted by Professor Else Maria Bukdahl, formerdirector of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Ms. Dorte Dahlin, visual artist and director ofthe Danish Project who contributed to the continuity of this vital cultural and intellectual event which isconsidered as a model for human interaction. Our thanks go also to all other artists and intellectuals whotook part and backed this meeting between the Emirate of Sharjah and Denmark.Department of Culture and InformationDirectorate of ArtNomad Academy is a network comprising artists, architects, poets and scholars. Itis one of the offshoots from an agreement forged in 2001 in connection with aneducational and cultural exchange between the United Arab Emirate of Sharjah andThe Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. The official signing of thecultural agreement transpired in Sharjah in April 2004. One of the overall goals ofthe cultural exchange project has been the establishment of networks and/or thewidening of already existing networks conjoining the Arabic nations, Denmark anda few selected countries in Scandinavia, the rest of Europe and U. S. A. Consequently,Nomad Academy now involves a steadily increasing number of institutions andindividuals in every one of these countries. Several of the different projects thatare listed in the following were not constituent elements of the original agreementbetween Sharjah and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts but have in fact beendeveloped and administrated independently by these newly affiliated institutions.The activities that are a part of the cultural exchange program between Sharjah andDenmark, or are affiliated to them, have been generously supported by the Departmentof Culture & Information in the government in Sharjah and the Danish ArtsCouncil’s Committee for International Visual Art under the Ministry of Culture, aswell as by other of the Ministry’s Art Foundations.
