Appendix 30.2Brief Healthy Murraylands UpdatePrepared for the Rural City of Murray Bridge Community Capacity Meeting3 July 2012Healthy Murraylands commenced as a Healthy Community Initiative, 2 year, Commonwealthfunded, project targeting adults predominantly unemployed in August 2011.Since project commencement key achievements have included:• Undertaking regional community consultation also identifying and consulting projectstakeholders• Forming a regional management committee which meets bimonthly• Designing a project implementation plan in line with project application and Departmentof Healthy and Ageing priority programs and target groups.• Launching the Healthy Murraylands website on 7 November 2011 to promote healthyand active opportunities across the Murraylands.• Forming a regional qualified fitness instructor database and setting up a TAFE Cert III inFitness training hub at Murray Bridge TAFE where 14 locals are currently enrolled.• Launching the Healthy Murraylands project inviting councils, elected members andcommunity from regional Murraylands to attend a Fun Run and Walk, held Thursday 1December 2011.• Starting to develop a Regional Wellbeing Policy together with the Managementcommittee and Tredwell Management.• Regularly meeting with OPAL Murray Bridge, and other regional wellbeing projects andstaff to discuss common themes, events and ways of working together.For the first 6 months, project progress was made at the regional level before drilling down intoeach of the five local governments of the Murraylands. Consultation, meetings and discussionshave helped to form a framework of healthy lifestyle services, facilities and programs availableacross the Murraylands. Resource and service gaps have been identified and are the basis ofaction in each council area.Rural City of Murray Bridge key actions to-date include:• Murraylands Strength for Life, strength based physical activity, for people over 50 years,launched in Murray Bridge on 22 nd May 2012.• Strength for Life - Murray Bridge commenced 5 June 2012 with the maximum number ofgroup participants and will continue for 10 weeks.• Subsidised training for locals:9
