in the Triathlon World Championships in Auckland year. It was awonderful experience just to be around and race against the bestelite and age group athletes in the world. I had one of my worst raceperformances ever due to sickness in the week leading up, but lovedevery minute of the event. Being amongst over 3000 internationalathletes, racing in the Australian colours and sharing the experiencewith other Meteors and my wife is a memory that I will hold on to fora long time!Recently you had a bike crash involving a fellow Meteor, Gabriel Parker.Whose fault was it?The tall blond girl standing outside the pub that we both looked atbefore I took my eyes off the road to notice Gabe was slowing downand ran into him!The challenge is down for one of our Meteor girls to crack 40km in ourbike time trials this year. Do you think it’s possible, and you do you think ismost likely to do it?I think it’s possible and if Skye Whitcher was still racing my moneywould be on her. Both Nic Leavold and Lisa Krys are also a chanceif they keep improving at theircurrent rate. I’m getting hungry now!What is your favourite training recovery food?After weekend training sessions I love coming home to make afruit smoothie. Made using whatever fresh fruit is in the house –watermelon, banana, berries, pineapple, peaches and combining witha scoop of yogurt, ice and orange or pineapple juice. Served with hotwaffles and maple syrup made with the Anita and boys. Yum!Do you have any quotes or slogans that fire you up?“Life is too short, live for the day and have no regrets”10
What is your dream bike, and do you ever intend to get an aero helmet?I would love to get a New Cervelo P5 if money was no option. I thinkaero helmets only look good on those who ride fast (which is not me...yet!). Maybe if I ever crack to 40km TT I may consider one.And finally, why do you enjoy about being a part of the Meteors?The meteors are a fabulous group of like minded people that cometogether to enjoy being fit and healthy, have a competitive spirit andshare social fun times with each other. Over the past two years themeteors have become like a second family to me. From the firstsession I came out to training people have always been encouraging ofmy efforts, regardless of whether you are the most elite in the club orjust starting out. Squad sessions built an environment that allows youto feel comfortable to give new pursuits a go and with Leon’s expertguidance and training enable you achieve things of yourself that youdidn’t think were possible. Along with the many social activities theclub organises and the great friends I have met in the past two years, itmakes me very proud to be associated with the club.11
