Those stories wereresearched and carefully casted in stone.Each story was drawn and its life size claymodel was made in Gujarat. The modelswere next transported to Pindvada inRajasthan, where they were carved into 148stone elephants, 42 animals and 125human figures. The elephants and theirdemonstrated stories in stone were nextfixed into the outer corridors of theMonument (Figures 5 and 6). It took almostfour years to create the entire setting of<strong>more</strong> than 250 meters long and <strong>more</strong> than3000 tonnes of elephant passages aroundthe Monument. That elephant passagesymbolizes mankind’s love towards otherliving and towards nature.The LandscapeThe Swaminarayan Akshardham Monument’slandscape covers 22 acres ofbeautiful gardens. There are 65 bronzestatues of India’s famous personalities:philosophers, intellectuals, politicians,historians and other thinkers. There arealso very well maintained lawns, trees,plants and shrubs in the Monument’sgardens.Figure 6. A life-size elephant cast in stone.12
