STUNNING SILK SCARVES<br />

Instructor: Christine Milostan Painting Studio<br />

Express your creativity in your wardrobe! Silk scarves are wonderful accessories that<br />

can lift your spirits and add a dash of artistic drama to your appearance. Learn basic<br />

dyeing techniques that will allow you to create a beautiful hand painted scarf in a few<br />

hours. <strong>Creative</strong> ways to tie and wear your new scarf will also be demonstrated. No<br />

art experience is necessary. Great for gift giving!<br />

Supplies: An iron, small hair dryer, old towels, one plastic tablecloth and one large<br />

garbage bag.<br />

SOCKS TO DYE FOR<br />

Instructor: Dagmar Klos Surface Design Studio<br />

This is for <strong>the</strong> knitter who wants custom dyed, multi-colored sock yarn, but is unfamiliar<br />

with <strong>the</strong> dyeing process. Come and see how fun and easy this can be. We will<br />

be “painting” <strong>the</strong> colors onto skeins of yarn. Each knitter will bring her/his own wool<br />

(or wool blend) yarn for one or two pairs to be dyed with acid dyes. Dye two or<br />

more colors or dye tone on tone. By <strong>the</strong> end of class, yarn will be dyed and ready for<br />

knitting that special project that will be envy of o<strong>the</strong>r knitters or have a gift for your<br />

favorite knitter. This class is open to all levels.<br />

Supplies: Yarn (protein or protein blend) in skein form, an apron (or wear old clo<strong>the</strong>s),<br />

rubber gloves, plastic bags for transporting wet fiber, plastic wrap such as Glad Cling<br />

NATURAL DYES - INTRO<br />

Instructor: Dagmar Klos Surface Design Studio<br />

You are interested in natural dyes but not quite sure how to go about – this is <strong>the</strong><br />

class for you. Bring some yarn or fabric (must be 100% natural – NO syn<strong>the</strong>tics) and<br />

we will mordant and dye, learning basic techniques. See how easy it can be to pull<br />

color out of natural dyestuff such as marigolds and get it onto your yarn or fabric.<br />

We will also work with dye extracts – ano<strong>the</strong>r easy technique. Join us as we begin to<br />

explore <strong>the</strong> world of natural dyes, creating beautiful colors along <strong>the</strong> way. This class is<br />

open to all levels, no prior dyeing experience necessary.<br />

Supplies: Yarn or fabric (remember no syn<strong>the</strong>tics), an apron (or wear old clo<strong>the</strong>s), rubber<br />

gloves, plastic bags for transporting wet fiber, class note-taking supplies (optional).<br />

PLY-SPLIT CORD DYE DAY<br />

This is for those who want to dye <strong>the</strong>ir own colors for ply-split projects, but are unfamiliar<br />

with <strong>the</strong> dyeing process. Come and see how fun and easy this can be. First we<br />

will measure out <strong>the</strong> cotton to <strong>the</strong> appropriate length <strong>the</strong>n we will “paint” <strong>the</strong> colors<br />

onto <strong>the</strong> cotton. We will steam set <strong>the</strong> colors. Then you’ll be ready for Michele’s “Twist<br />

Ply-Split Cords” class on Saturday, May 19th. Yarn will be provided.<br />

This class is open to all levels, but it is suggested that you have prior ply-split experience<br />

before taking <strong>the</strong> “Twist Ply-Split Cords” class.<br />

Supplies: An apron (or wear old clo<strong>the</strong>s), rubber gloves, plastic bags for transporting<br />

wet fiber, plastic wrap such as Glad Cling Wrap and brushes of assorted sizes (bristle<br />
