I prefer to get over one before worry<strong>in</strong>g about <strong>the</strong>next.FridayWe <strong>of</strong>ten have an <strong>in</strong>formal partners’ meet<strong>in</strong>g on aFriday morn<strong>in</strong>g at 10.30am for between 30 m<strong>in</strong>utesand an hour.Normally at lunchtime, I catch up with <strong>the</strong> GlobalHead <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Appleby</strong> Trusts and Private ClientGroup, Tim Faries, who is based <strong>in</strong> Bermuda. Fromtime to time, I also regularly have a video conferencewith all local heads <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Trusts and Private ClientGroup. These are valuable, enabl<strong>in</strong>g us to feel part<strong>of</strong> an <strong>in</strong>ternational team and to share news and ideas.This particular Friday I am <strong>in</strong> Dubl<strong>in</strong>, <strong>of</strong> behalf <strong>of</strong>STEP, promot<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Isle <strong>of</strong> Man to local bus<strong>in</strong>esspr<strong>of</strong>essionals with IOM F<strong>in</strong>ance. The event is atlunchtime so I am able to catch up with client workdur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> morn<strong>in</strong>g and before catch<strong>in</strong>g a swift flightback to <strong>the</strong> Isle <strong>of</strong> Man early even<strong>in</strong>g, volcanic ashpermitt<strong>in</strong>g!Paparazzi. Once <strong>the</strong> children are <strong>in</strong> bed, Sarah and Ilike to share some quiet time and a glass <strong>of</strong> w<strong>in</strong>e.On Sunday we are up early and start <strong>the</strong> day withChurch, followed by a bite <strong>of</strong> lunch. We spend quitea lot <strong>of</strong> time at <strong>the</strong> beach and we are very fond <strong>of</strong>spend<strong>in</strong>g time at Port St Mary at <strong>the</strong> weekend.Some friends and I occasionally go out fish<strong>in</strong>g onBob Taylor’s boat “Gem<strong>in</strong>i”. If we are not <strong>the</strong>re,favourite family activities are fish<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>lakes and rivers, a cycle ride or a walk along one <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> promenades on <strong>the</strong> Island (ideally <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g icecream).I tend to work for a couple <strong>of</strong> hours so that I canrelax for <strong>the</strong> rema<strong>in</strong>der <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> day. In <strong>the</strong> even<strong>in</strong>g,we like to sit down to a Sunday roast d<strong>in</strong>ner, forwhich Sarah’s parents jo<strong>in</strong> us, liv<strong>in</strong>g as <strong>the</strong>y do justround <strong>the</strong> corner.After a busy week, my wife and I go out to d<strong>in</strong>nerthis even<strong>in</strong>g – a rare <strong>in</strong>dulgence without <strong>the</strong>children.<strong>Week</strong>end <strong>Life</strong>Saturday, as with most families on <strong>the</strong> Island,<strong>in</strong>volves a lot <strong>of</strong> ferry<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> children to and from<strong>the</strong>ir various activities. Charles has swimm<strong>in</strong>g andfootball on Saturday morn<strong>in</strong>g and Emily has balletlessons on Saturday afternoon. Both have publicspeak<strong>in</strong>g with Pat Corr<strong>in</strong> at 5.30pm on Saturdayafternoon. No hockey today because <strong>the</strong> season hasjust f<strong>in</strong>ished, so I shall squeeze <strong>in</strong> a little quiet time <strong>in</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice.We love to get out with <strong>the</strong> children for a meal oncea week and tonight we are <strong>of</strong>f to one <strong>of</strong> our regulars,JOHN RIMMERLocal Group Head – Private Client and Trusts, Partnerjrimmer@applebyglobal.com
