Hockey report – zone finals years 7 and 8Congratulations to both teams for making the statefinals. Neither team lost a game and both played withskill, flair and great sportsmanship.created deep attacking moves that were oftenconverted by Brad. Similarly to our last game, our lastline of defence of Connor and Matt proved much toostrong for the opposition. Connor controlled the backline and barked out instructions to his teammates. A 3-0 win.Both state finals will be held at the State Hockey centrein Brens Drive, Royal Park. The Year 7s play on Friday12th of November and the Year 8s on Thursday 18th ofNovember.Tony LawrenceRio Tinto Big Science CompetitionYear 8 Hockey TeamThe Year 8 team played their qualifying games,scoring 8 goals and only conceding 2. Oscar, Ben andChristy each with a brace and singles to Luke and Jai.Nathan controlled the backline and repelled manyattacks, running down his opponents and counterattackingwith assistance from Oscar, Luke and Nick.Yue and Laurence dominated the midfield with hardrunning and creative passes came from Stephen andRikvin. Tom, Joe and Kostas played tenaciously,particularly down the right side, slotting through ballsfor shots on goal. Stan (keeper) and Nix were onlycalled on occasionally but still showed their steelydefence.Congratulations to Axiom Dowling (Year 11) andClarissa Ng (Year 7) for their excellent results in thisyear‟s “Rio Tinto Big Science Competition”. Over 28,000 students entered the competition, representing allAustralian states and territories, in addition to a largenumber of entries from Singapore, the Philippines andNew Zealand. This makes Axiom‟s “Distinction” andClarissa‟s “Credit” all the more impressive – and welldone to all BSC students who entered thiscompetition. It is onFriday 3rd December for periods 3-6. So make sure youall bring a hat, shirts and sunscreen as well as yourbathers for a fun and exciting day.Brent Pawley, Sports CoordinatorYear 7 Hockey TeamThe Year 7 boys played brilliantly against Northcotein the first game but, despite bombarding theiropponent‟s goal, they only managed a draw. Dylan,Aydan, Luke and Jiun Min made countless attacks ongoal and switched play frequently to break-up theopponent‟s defence.In the second game <strong>Brunswick</strong> dominated in themidfield with creative and relentless moves from Brad(a lazy 7 goals for the day), Reed and Owen. The ballwas constantly fed to Jack to set-up the forward moves.The team won 4-0 against Lalor.The final game was just that, a game to see whowould go through to the State Finals. Diamond Valleyattacked with speed and skill but they were matchedwith counter attacking skills from Ethan, Connor, Adamand Daniel. The team work was magnificent. Reminder: Work ExperienceWeek will be Mon 23 rd May –Fri 27 th May 2011In addition, the next part of the preparation for WorkExperience will be in March 2011 when they will beparticipating in the Occupational Health and SafetyForum and completing the OH&S tests that are acompulsory requirement for Work Experience.
