For the past two years, almost half <strong>of</strong> our members have been MGiT’s and we are pleased to beshifting the balance to having a majority <strong>of</strong> fully certified <strong>Master</strong> <strong>Gardeners</strong>.Major Volunteer ActivitiesWe participated in the Kingston Gardening FestivalOur members arranged for and presented the speakers, organized the volunteers, designed and built thedisplay gardens and organized a display <strong>of</strong> Secondary School student artwork related to gardening. Three<strong>of</strong> our members were on the steering committee for the event.Communities in Bloom Kick-Off EventMembers guided elementary school children in the planting <strong>of</strong> barrels to be displayed in the square behindKingston City Hall.Fundraising ActivitiesOur major fundraiser event was a joint Communities in Bloom/<strong>Master</strong> Garden tour in Kingston. Another fundraiser was a series <strong>of</strong> workshops at various garden centres as a joint project <strong>of</strong> Rideau 1000 Islands <strong>Master</strong><strong>Gardeners</strong>, Gananoque Horticultural Society, Kingston Horticultural Society and Collins Bay and DistrictHorticultural Society. This was preceded by a presentation on 1812 gardens to celebrate the 200 th anniversary <strong>of</strong>the War <strong>of</strong> 1812 which figures prominently in the history <strong>of</strong> the area in and around Kingston.61
