It’s agood idea to plan ahead.Use this leaflet as a guide to help you plan <strong>for</strong> your baby.Things to do be<strong>for</strong>e you get pregnant• Contact your doctor, nurse, health visitor or family planning clinic• Take a 400 microgram (mcg) folic acid tablet daily• Stop smoking• Avoid alcohol• Avoid drugs• Avoid environmental hazards• Eat well <strong>and</strong> aim <strong>for</strong> a healthy weight• Take regular exercise• Remember to relax• Visit your dentist.See your DoctorTo make sure you are healthy be<strong>for</strong>e becoming pregnant have a check-up.You may need to have:• A smear test• Abnormal vaginal discharge treated• A German Measles (Rubella) injection.
