With this will be the Student Placement Profile which you are invited to fill outand return to your child’s teacher. We understand that you know your child best, and as partners in his/hereducation, we look forward to your input regarding what environment you feel will best serve his/her learningneeds next year. Please remember, however, that we are asking that you do not indicate a specific teacherthat you would like next year – any forms containing teacher names will be discarded and not considered in theplacement process. Many parents wonder about the placement process and who is involved in making the important decision ofwhere their child will spend his/her next year of schooling. Primarily it is this year’s teacher, as a member oftheir grade level team. The grade level teachers gather to organize the draft class lists for next year, basedfirst on balanced numbers as far as gender, academics, and social needs as well as parent input. The schoolcounselor, principal and resource room teacher are involved in this process also, as they have knowledge ofstudents outside of the classroom environment. By the time the lists are created they have been filteredthrough many sets of criteria and with the input and care of many staff members. The Student Placement Policy and Procedures document is attached to this newsletter.4every student ◊ every day ◊ every classroom
