Sharing Practice 2010IntroductionThis Sharing Practice Booklet is intended as a simple guide to the physical activity projects fromacross the UK submitted to be showcased at the 10th BHFNC Annual Conference, ‘The cure for all illsis not to sit still: Raising the profile of physical activity across the UK’. This year’s booklet focuses onprojects that have engaged primary care professionals such as GPs and Practice Nurses in projectdesign and /or delivery.The aim of this booklet is to:Encourage sharing of practice among health and physical activity professionals.Increase awareness of the range of interventions taking place across the UK.Provide ideas on how to engage key primary care professionals with the physical activity agenda.Top tips emerging from this booklet for establishing the engagement of key primary careprofessionals include:1. Organise meetings with key players to present the latest evidence on the scheme’s value formoney and health benefits for patients.2. Engage physical activity ‘champions’ within the medical profession to promote the scheme toothers in the field.3. Hold project launch events and invite primary care professionals along.4. It can be difficult to engage directly with GPs; it may be more effective to engage with PracticeManagers instead.5. Due to time constraints and competing priorities, referral forms should be as easy to completeas possible.6. To ensure continued engagement, it may be necessary to report good outcome measures andsuccess stories regularly.All the projects included have agreed to share their experiences and have also included their contactdetails for your information. We have endeavoured to ensure that at the time of printing, theinformation is up‐to‐date but know that you will appreciate that people and organisations changefrom time to time.
