1 IntroductionThe explicit Finite Element code EUROPLEXUS is written for the calculation of fast dynamicfluid-structure interactions. This code has been developed in collaboration between the FrenchCommissariat à l'Energie Atomique (CEA Saclay) and the Joint Research Centre of the EuropeanUnion (JRC Ispra). In recent years, the use of multi-processor machines has become more and more popular especiallyusing the Linux operating system. But also under Windows more and more CPU-consumingprograms are running on more than one thread. While OpenMP (shared memory) can mainly onlybe used on one machine, MPI (distributed memory) calculations are possible also on much biggercluster systems. The EUROPLEXUS code was adapted to MPI calculations in recent years at CEAfor their Linux cluster system. This technical note presents the developments for MPI underWindows at JRC and the adaptation of the compilation and running procedures to the new JRCHPC Linux cluster. The description of OpenMP and MPI can be found in the following specifications:• http://www.openmp.org/mp-documents/spec30.pdf• http://www.mpi-forum.org/docs/mpi21-report.pdf4
