Prospects andChallenges, the second section provides a broad overviewof some existing mechanisms <strong>for</strong> human rights promotionand protection in the <strong>Pacific</strong>. The third section Building<strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong> <strong>Institutions</strong> sets out the internationalstandards <strong>for</strong> NHRIs and canvasses the prospects andchallenges <strong>for</strong> human rights promotion and protectionin the region. Implications <strong>for</strong> dialogue about <strong>for</strong>ms ofNHRIs in the <strong>Pacific</strong> are outlined. The report then outlinesdetailed examples of <strong>for</strong>ms of NHRIs in the Asia <strong>Pacific</strong>and Caribbean regions, drawing particularly on the experienceof the Asia <strong>Pacific</strong> Forum of <strong>National</strong> <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong><strong>Institutions</strong> and the OHCHR <strong>National</strong> <strong>Institutions</strong> Unit.Practical suggestions <strong>for</strong> pathways <strong>for</strong>ward are made. Thereport concludes with brief comment on the role of NHRIsin international treaty body reporting
