IThe Forestry BanquetThe twenty-ninth annual Forestry Club Banquet, held onMarch 1, was an outstandingone from the standpoint of both the program and the attendance. Three <strong>Purdue</strong> co-edsknown as the "Three Singers" provided entertainment with songs ranging from folk balladsto old time favorites. An added attraction was the recital of the poem "Paul BunyanBeware," written and presented by Mrs. Joyce Hiday. The main address was given byDr. John C. Callahan, Associate Professor of Forestry at <strong>Purdue</strong>. His topic, "TheGathering Storm in Forestry," was both inspirational and educational. Having spent thegreater part of the summer in Washington, D.C., working with the Bureau of the Budgeton the proposed Forest Service budget, Dr. Callahan had first-hand information on theforestry situation and was able to give a pointed description of both the present and futureof forestry.Several awards were given during the course of the evening. The Xi Sigma Pi a­ward, presented by Dave Walz, president of Kappa Chapter, went to the sophomore forestrystudent who has shown the greatest leadership and scholarship potential. The outstandingcamper award was given to the student who showed the highest standards ofscholarship, field ability, leadership, and cooperation during the previous summer camp.This award was presented by Professor C. I. Miller. The outstanding senior award wasgiven to the student who, in the opinion of the staff, has shown the highest standards ofscholarship and leadership. This was presented by Dr. E. W. Stark. The last award of theevening was the Chase S. Osborn award and was given to L.E. Sawyer, better known as"Buck" for his contributions to the field of conservation in the state of Indiana.Dr. John C.
