Sample introductionDegrees of automation to freestaff for other work• Fast, simple and highly reliable sampleintroduction system using a 12-positionsample changer.• Large X-Y magazine allows automatichandling of larger series of samples.Small and large cassettes canaccommodate samples of various sizesFull automation through ARL SMS-2000Large XY sample changerThe X-Y magazine has 98 coded positionsfor samples in cassettes or on specificsupports. The coding of each positionallows unattended operation and savestime and effort in determining whichsample belongs to a particular analysis. This larger magazine can easily replacethe basic system if the need arises.A version of the X-Y sample changerallows connection to transport beltssuitable for one sample form e.g. pressedpowders in steel rings. This simpleautomation is named ARL SMS-XY.• Optional SMS-2000 and SMS-3000robotic systems offer fully automaticsample preparation and introduction. With either of these options, theinstrument can automatically conductcontinuous process monitoringunattended and raise an alarm if anyanomaly is detected. The SMS-2000 is aflexible and very powerful system whichlinks the whole sample preparation andanalysis process. The SMS-3000 is alarger robot which serves both an OESand an XRF instrument.Quantitative analysisAccuracy made easyAnalytical programmes and calibration aredefined with the help of the on-lineAnalytical Assistant. Calibration curves arebuilt using the multi-variable regression(MVR) programme.Correction models are used tominimize the influence of interferingelements in multi-component matricesand achieve better accuracy of analysis. These models are:• Line overlap correction• Additive correction on intensities• Additive correction on concentrations• Multiplicative correction on intensities• Multiplicative correction onconcentrations• Multiplicative and additive corrections onconcentrations• COmprehensive LAchance (COLA) with 3term alphas to be used with the optionalNBSGSC fundamental parametersprogramme, which can simulateanalytical calibrations for homogeneousmaterials. Inter-element correction factors(theoretical alphas) are calculated andused as known coefficients in the MVR.This minimizes the number of standardsnecessary to produce calibrations andimproves the accuracy of analysis. In addition, ex-works calibrations can bedelivered for various materials such as;• iron and steel• copper, bronze and brass• aluminum and alloys• nickel, stellite and super-alloys• various oxides through the General Oxidecalibration• traces in soils and sediments• ferro-alloys and others for whichanalytical specifications are availableon request.Customer supportThe backing of a majorinternational corporationThe Thermo Electron Corporation offers youworldwide support.• Application product teams can advise onthe most suitable ARL 9900 for a givenapplication and help to draw upspecifications.• Dedicated training allows operators toexploit to the full the capabilities of theirARL 9900.• A comprehensive worldwide after-salesservice network assists with theresolution of day to day queries andensures that the ARL 9900 achieves thevery high standard of reliability anddurability it is designed to give.Statistical Process Control - Typical screenMVR calibration curve: real concentrations vs. intensities
